Saying For Today: We find the past is really nothing. We find ourselves able to rest securely on the present step.

Enter this sanctuary time by settling down, becoming quiet, and breathing deeply some breaths. Remind yourself you are in the Presence of Love. This place you are entering, within, is the inner Temple, where you are One with God. You may wish to use a mantra, or prayer phrase, follow the breathing in-and-out, or witness the arising and falling of all around you as the manifestation of universal-God. Enjoy these moments of quietly settling and come out when you are ready.

As we move more into the Divine Darkness, we move more into the Divine, we move more into the Power for the healing of the past. We do not have to try to heal the past, the Divine energies, or Grace, heals the past. Each step into a vaster, more embracing Mystery, is a step away from suffering and into Wholeness. The process of spirituality is the process of healing. Do you want healing? Move closer to the Healer, the Healing.

A man came upon a tall tower. He stepped inside to find it all dark. As he groped around, he came upon a circular staircase. Curious to know where it led to, he began climbing, and as he climbed, he sensed a growing uneasiness in his heart.

So, he looked behind him and was horrified to see that each time he climbed a step, the previous one fell off and disappeared. Before him, the stairs wound upward, and he had no idea where they led; behind him was an enormous black emptiness.

The process of detachment pertains to outward and inward things. Indeed, the inner things might be most difficult to let go of.

For example, resentments. I was complaining to a friend of how someone had treated me almost a year ago. He reminded me of the uselessness of keeping that alive within me. That was hellish; yet, I was keeping that hellishness inside me.

Through connecting with other persons and some group work, I saw that inside-attachment loosen and drop. Now, I can laugh about how she treated me. Being able to smile and laugh about what I see as an injustice frees it from its power over me and is part of the on-going process of healing into Life. How I was treated by her, or not, and what others do or do not think, need not matter, unless I choose that hellishness.

The death of the old self, and the rising of the New Self, is the dying to the things that we use to define the old life. And much that defines many persons' old life is misery. Yet, we can get so habituated to misery, we choose our hell over our heaven, we choose the demon of pain over the angel of healing.

So, the spiritual Path is one of healing. With each step of the staircase, we are letting go of the past. We find the past is really nothing. We find ourselves able to rest securely on the present step. We have no need to push to recreate the past or force ourselves to create a future.

Each step is okay, being here and now, is okay. Okay, is okay, and neither has to be some idea of pain or pleasure. Now is now.

Today, look into something painful from your past. In meditation, say inwardly, “That is nothing.” Do this, and notice that the past is nothing. Smile at some past hurt; forgive someone whom you think hurt you.
